My daughter recently learned how to crochet. She was on a 2 hour school bus trip and learned how to crochet during that time. I had tried to teach her when she was smaller but she didn't have the hand eye coordination at that point.
I was thrilled that she learned and eager to teach her more about it. After a couple of weeks of chain stitch I showed her a double crochet and she quickly decided to make a scarf. I helped her a bit but for the most part she did it and finished in 3 days.
She visited with her grandmother and learned how to crochet in the round. She taught herself how to increase and decrease to make different things (pot holders, coasters, ball, hats).
Tonight she decided to make a Squinkie necklace. She crocheted the chain and put the Squinkie in the chain. It looks so adorable.
Here is her proud smile. I'm paranoid about weirdos so I covered most of her face. She asked if she could sell them in my Etsy shop and I told her she could. We changed the way the Squinkie hung from the crochet chain so she is wear it to school tomorrow in hopes she might sell one. I just can't be more proud of her!
I started my own jewelry company in 2003. At this time, most of my focus is on learning more techniques, my family, and trying to maintain a balance.

Oscars
Oscars were amazing last night. I don't normally watch but I like to see what jewelry trends are popular. This year was more earrings and bracelets. I also saw quite a few hair adornments that were breathtaking. You can go look for your self here http://www.peoplestylewatch.com/people/stylewatch/package/gallery/0,,20332759_20349134,00.html.
I think I am going to watch Precious and The Hurt Locker out of curiosity. I had avoided Precious because I knew it was hard to watch. The Hurt Locker isn't something that would normally appeal but I'll watch it anyways.
My favorite jewelry came from Maggie Gyllenhaal. I loved her earrings and the hair piece she had made.

I've been a bad bad blogger
Really nothing interesting happened! The kids were at my moms all week. When I wasn't make jewelry I was trying to get fans for my facebook fan page. I made it to 100 and got my short URL http://www.facebook.com/mithrildreams if you wanna see.
I made another Tree of Life Pendant and a special pendant for my mom. I chewed out by brother and a everyone else for fighting over Health care. I think I may have shocked a few people...teehee.
Also my tutorial is a big hit! I've already made close to $100 on Jewelrylessons and that is with them taking a 50% cut. Crazy! Tomorrow I pick up the kiddos so it is life as usual. I have exactly one week before school. We need to get shoes, backpacks, and haircuts. I also did a proposal on the schools website so I may be trying to cram in web design at night.
Hmm, maybe more happened than I thought :)
Here is some of the jewelry I worked on this week.

PMC a new adventure
We headed out to a bead store in Spring so that I could buy some photo xfer plates for my precious metal clay jewelry. With these plates you can take anything and turn it into a pendant/charm. Right now, I'm interested in turning thumb prints and children's art into pendants. Here is some examples of what is possible..
Not my art or pictures but i didn't want to hotlink and steal bandwidth. I plan on replacing them with my own work asap.

The only real downside I can see is that the materials and process are not cheap. It jacks the end cost up quite a bit. The small thumbprints go for sixty dollars and the children's drawings are priced from $80-$175 but it is a unique process and in my opinion totally cool!
They didn't have everything but are suppose to get it in soon.

Knotted Netting & Crochet
Knotted Netting with Octopus pendant - I thought the pendant fitting because the knotting technique is borrowed from how to construct fishing nets.
It looks heavy but it isn't. The beads are resin, wood, and painted jasper. I was surprised at how lightweight it turned out.
I used bigger beads so I could keep track of the net and knot rotation
